Who We Are

Our Mission

Come as you are; be restored and renewed in faith. At Oakland, we strive to be a church that glorifies God and seeks to do His will by exhibiting His presence in our lives. From accessible teaching, traditional and contemporary worship, thoughtful prayer, and compassionate care for others, we are intentional in living for Him by grace through faith.

Our Story

In 1892, the original members of Oakland Baptist Church recognized the need to organize themselves after prayer and seeking God’s word more closely to conform to His will for a church in Alexandria. They understood the basic truth that the Bible explains God creating, convicting, converting and conforming His people by His Word. They found God’s Word as central to the life of his people.

For over 130 years and by the grace of God, Oakland has remained a community of believers who are committed to God’s word; to the fellowship of believers; to breaking bread; and to prayer. We are committed to the same Gospel believed by Christians through the centuries and proclaim Christ is the “same yesterday, today, and forever.”

What We Believe

The word “gospel” means “good news.” When believers talk about the gospel, they’re simply telling the good news about Jesus Christ: a message from God saying, “Good news! Here is how you can be saved from my judgment and brought to new life!”

Why Is the Gospel Good News?

  1. We are accountable to God.

  2. Our problem is our sin against God.

  3. God’s solution is salvation through Jesus Christ.

  4. We come to be included in that salvation by faith and repentance.

Our Values

The church is God’s idea, and it was established upon the work of Jesus Christ. Jesus founded the church (Matthew 16:18); Jesus commissioned the church (Matthew 28:18–20); Jesus built the church through the Spirit (Acts 2: 42–7); and Jesus rules the church through His word. We’ve aligned ourselves with the fundamental principles of a 4G Ministry — Gather, Grow, Give, and Go.

We Gather to hear God’s word and worship God as a family.

We Grow by studying, learning, and living by the Holy Bible.

We Give by volunteering our time, using our gifts to serve the community, and giving monetarily to support the ministries of the church.

We Go to spread the Gospel message to the lost as mandated in Matthew 28:16-20.
